AMMAN, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday highlighted the urgency of de-escalating tensions in the occupied West Bank and halting all illegal Israeli measures that undermine prospects for a two-state solution.

Safadi made the remarks in a phone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, according to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

The two ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Jordan and Australia across various sectors to serve the shared interests of both countries and peoples.

They also discussed the latest developments in the region, with Safadi stressing the need for joint international efforts to end the Israeli aggression on Gaza, achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, facilitate a prisoner exchange agreement, and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.

He also called for an end to violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministers discussed preparations for the upcoming international peace conference in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, and agreed to maintain coordination on shared concerns.
