SYDNEY, June 11 (Xinhua) -- One person has died and three more have been hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash northeast of Melbourne.
Police in Australia's state of Victoria said in a statement on Wednesday that a station wagon and a utility vehicle collided about 9:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday in the town of Merrijig, about 140 kilometers northeast of Melbourne near the ski resort village of Mount Buller.
A 48-year-old woman who was a rear passenger in the utility died at the scene.
The other rear passenger, a 32-year-old man, and the 25-year-old male driver of the station wagon suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to the hospital.
The 22-year-old driver of the utility was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Victoria Police said that it is expected that the 25-year-old station wagon driver will be interviewed at a later date in relation to the incident.
An investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash is ongoing. ■
