KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) recorded a growth of 2.7 percent in April, underpinned by manufacturing sector growth, official data showed Wednesday.
The manufacturing sector grew by 5.6 percent during the month, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
Conversely, the mining and electricity sector declined by 6.3 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.
For the period of January to April, the IPI increased by 2.4 percent as compared to the same period last year.
During this period, the manufacturing sector recorded an expansion of 4.5 percent, while the mining and electricity sectors contracted by 4 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. ■
