JAKARTA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 302 surfers from 17 countries and regions have begun competing in the 2025 World Surf League Krui Pro, held in Indonesia's Lampung Province, an official announced on Tuesday.
According to the event committee, participants hail from countries and regions including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, South Africa, and the host nation, Indonesia.
The international surfing event is taking place at Tanjung Setia Beach in West Pesisir Regency and will run from June 10 to June 17, said Irawan Topani, deputy regent of the regency.
Topani noted a significant increase in participation compared to last year, when the event drew 113 surfers.
"To all surfers and tourists competing and spectating at the 2025 World Surf League Krui Pro, I wish you the best of luck. Show your best performances, uphold sportsmanship, and make this event a platform to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood among nations," he said during the opening.
The competition features four categories, namely, men's QS6000, women's QS6000, men's Junior Pro, and women's Junior Pro.
"We also hope that the presence of visitors and tourists will contribute to boosting local tourism," Topani added. ■
