DAR ES SALAAM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- An estimated 1.9 million Tanzanians are expected to benefit from strengthened disaster preparedness and response capabilities under new financing from the World Bank, the global lender said in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the 300-million-U.S. dollars credit includes 100 million dollars in Development Policy Financing as budget support, and 200 million dollars allocated to a Catastrophe Deferred Drawdown Option from the International Development Association.
The financing aims to boost economic resilience and strengthen Tanzania's technical, financial, and institutional capacity to manage climate, fiscal, and disaster-related risks, the World Bank said.
It further pointed out that Tanzania faces growing vulnerability to natural disasters due to its expanding population and economy,
"This new financing will support the implementation of the country's climate and disaster risk management policy framework, while strengthening coordination and enhancing the institutional capacities responsible for disaster management," it added. ■
