LONDON, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chelsea has made another signing of the summer with the confirmation that French defender Mamadou Sarr has joined from Strasbourg in a deal with 12 million pounds (16.2 million US dollars).
The Chelsea website confirmed Sarr has agreed a contract until the end of June 2033 and his signing follows those of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon and like the other summer arrivals, he will be eligible to play in the Club World Cup, which Chelsea kicks off against LAFC on June 16th.
Sarr moves to Chelsea after a breakthrough season in France, playing 28 times as Strasbourg finished an impressive seventh in Ligue 1 to earn a play-off place to try and qualify for the Conference League.
The 19-year-old has shown he can play in a midfield holding role, but most of his appearances this season have been in central defense. ■
