NEW YORK, June 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 108.00 points, or 0.25 percent, to 42,319.74. The S&P 500 sank 31.51 points, or 0.53 percent, to 5,939.3. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 162.04 points, or 0.83 percent, to 19,298.45.
Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer discretionary and consumer staples leading the laggards by losing 2.47 percent and 1.20 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services bucked the trend by rising 0.06 percent. ■
