KABUL, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Work for the construction of a water supply network to provide potable water to residents in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province has commenced, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Wednesday.
To be completed within five months and financed by the World Bank, the network would provide clean water via water tapes to the 450 families, the state-owned media outlet added.
The residents of Takhar province have little access to clean water, and many villagers used to fetch water from polluted basins and standing waters which caused illness to the people.
Similar projects have earlier been launched in several provinces to provide clean water to the people.
The Afghan interim government plans to launch more development projects across the war-ravaged country to address economic challenges, create job opportunities and reduce poverty. ■
