DOHA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, met here on Tuesday with a Syrian delegation headed by foreign affairs chief Asaad Hassan al-Shibani to discuss bilateral relations and avenues of cooperation, according to a statement issued by Qatar's Foreign Ministry.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors, including energy, economy, trade, finance, tourism, communications, information technology, higher education, and development.
According to the statement, the cooperation plan includes supporting Syria's electricity sector, settling Syria's debt to the World Bank through joint efforts by Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and providing joint financial assistance to support public sector salaries in Syria for three months.
During the meeting, the Qatari side reaffirmed its firm position in support of Syria's unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
For its part, the Syrian delegation expressed appreciation for Qatar's supportive stance toward the Syrian people.
Al-Shibani, accompanied by seven Syrian senior officials, arrived in Doha earlier on Tuesday for an official visit. ■
