SANTIAGO, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Uncapped Atletico Mineiro teenager Ivan Roman has been drafted into Chile's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia, the Chilean football association said on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old replaces 36 year-old Universidad de Chile midfielder Charles Aranguiz, who was cut from the squad due to a leg muscle injury.
Roman, who has represented Chile at youth level, has had limited opportunities at Atletico Mineiro with just two league appearances since joining the Brazilian top flight club in February.
Chile will meet Argentina in Santiago on June 5 and Bolivia in El Alto five days later.
The Roja is currently last in the 10-team South American group and is seeking to win both matches to have an outside chance of securing a berth at next year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. ■
