JAKARTA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has exported 128 tons of the amino acid product L-Tryptophan worth 900,000 U.S. dollars from PT Cheil Jedang Indonesia (CJI)'s facility in Pasuruan city, East Java province, to China on Tuesday.
"This export contributes significantly to boosting national non-oil and gas exports, especially in the biotechnology-based chemical industry sector," said Minister of Trade Budi Santoso in a press release.
L-Tryptophan is a raw material in the form of essential amino acids used by industry to produce animal feed, such as poultry and cattle. This product plays an important role as a feed additive in the livestock sector.
In 2024, Indonesia's total L-Tryptophan exports reached 259 million dollars, with 61.7 percent shipped to China, positioning the archipelago nation as the 12th largest global supplier, with an average annual growth of 15.84 percent over the past five years.
Indonesia's total foreign exchange earnings from PT CJI's L-Tryptophan exports have reached 2.5 billion dollars, with major destinations including China, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany.
Imam Nachrowi, director of administration at PT CJI, said that since 2010, the company has exported 350,000 tons of L-Tryptophan to 90 countries. ■
