SEOUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Lee Jae-myung, presidential candidate of South Korea's majority liberal Democratic Party, would be elected the country's new president with certainty, local broadcaster JTBC and three terrestrial broadcasters said Tuesday.
With 40 percent of the votes counted at 11:41 p.m. local time (1441 GMT), Lee won 48.89 percent and his archrival Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party garnered 42.78 percent, according to the National Election Commission.
Lee made a short speech to supporters before making his way to the parliamentary building late Tuesday. ■
