ANKARA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities have seized 1,870 kg of methamphetamine worth 5.6 billion Turkish lira (about 142.9 million U.S. dollars) during an anti-smuggling operation at the eastern border crossing in Agri Province, the trade ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry has reported a sharp increase in narcotics seizures in 2025. As of June, a total of 17.1 tons of drugs valued at 19.9 billion Turkish lira (about 507.5 million dollars) have been confiscated, a 234 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
Straddling the crossroads of Asia and Europe, Türkiye remains a key transit route for drug smuggling. ■
