ALMATY, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have signed a protocol on the joint use of Tajikistan's Bahri Tojik reservoir during the peak irrigation period from June to August 2025, Kazinform news agency reported on Monday.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation by the water resources ministers of the three countries.
Under the protocol, Kazakhstan is expected to receive 491 million cubic meters of water during the peak vegetation season.
The protocol sets out a coordinated water usage schedule aimed at ensuring the efficient and balanced distribution of water resources among the three countries.
"Kazakhstan remains committed to implementing joint water management projects and promoting the principles of international water law. Only through cooperation can we effectively address climate challenges," said Kazakhstan's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
Earlier, it was reported that the energy and water resources ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan held a regular meeting in Tashkent to discuss the uninterrupted and efficient operation of regional water and energy systems during summer season. ■
