ANKARA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's annual inflation rate eased to 35.41 percent in May, according to the latest data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Tuesday.
The annual inflation rate in May, down from 37.86 percent in April, was the lowest Türkiye has seen since November 2021.
It was also less than market estimates, which predicted the inflation would slow down to around 36.1 percent.
Monthly, consumer price inflation was 1.53 percent, compared to 3.0 percent in April.
Annual increases in May were led by education prices increasing by 71.67 percent, while housing prices climbed 67.43 percent. Food and non-alcoholic drinks prices rose 32.87 percent.
Türkiye has been grappling with rising inflation for years. The annual inflation rate dipped slightly in April to 37.86 percent, down from 38.1 percent in March.
In May, the Turkish central bank kept its year-end inflation forecast unchanged at 24 percent. ■
