LONDON, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Premier League champions Liverpool on Friday announced the signing of Dutch international right back Jeremie Frimpong.

The 24-year-old joins from Bayer Leverkusen for 35 million euros (40 million U.S. dollars) just hours after Real Madrid announced the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, with Alexander-Arnold arriving in time for the FIFA Club World Cup at a cost of between 10 and 15 million euros.

Frimpong said on the Liverpool website that when he learned of interest from the Premier League champions, he told his agent to "just get this done."

"Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together."

"I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won't let you guys down and I'll give you the energy that you guys want," he added.

Frimpong began his career in the Manchester City youth system, before joining Celtic and then moving to Bayer Leverkusen. He played 190 games, scoring 30 goals and forming part of the Bayer team that won a Bundesliga and German Cup double in the 2023-24 season under the guidance of new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso.

He becomes the fourth Dutch player at Anfield along with international teammates Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, and will compete with Conor Bradley for a place in Liverpool's starting 11 next season.

Liverpool is also thought to be interested in signing Bayer's German international forward Florian Wirtz.
