TOKYO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended lower Friday, as sentiment was dampened following back-and-forth court decisions on the legality of the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 467.88 points, or 1.22 percent, from Thursday at 37,965.10.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 10.45 points, or 0.37 percent, lower at 2,801.57.
Stocks retreated after a U.S. federal appeals court granted the Trump administration permission to maintain its most sweeping tariffs while it weighs the case, a day after a lower court blocked the slew of tariffs, analysts said.
The benchmark Nikkei index at one time shed over 600 points as heavyweight chip issues fell after a sharp advance the previous day, while some export-oriented auto and electronics shares were sold on a stronger yen. ■
