Lisbon, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese president on Thursday nominated Luis Montenegro as prime minister, following the legislative election results and talks with parties represented in Parliament.
The official appointment and swearing-in of the new government will take place after the final election results are confirmed and the newly elected Assembly of the Republic holds its first session.
Following their meeting with the president, Carlos Cesar of the Socialist Party (PS) and Andre Ventura of Chega both voiced support for the formation of a government led by the Democratic Alliance (AD), headed by Montenegro. ■
