TEHRAN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Oman on Wednesday issued a joint statement pledging to deepen cooperation on key bilateral and regional issues following Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's two-day official visit to Muscat, the official news agency IRNA reported.
At the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Pezeshkian arrived in Oman on Tuesday to reinforce the "strong historical bond between the two brotherly nations and to advance sustainable cooperation," the statement said.
During their talks, the two leaders reviewed prospects for collaboration across a range of sectors and agreed to enhance coordination on matters of mutual interest. They underlined their commitment to expanding economic ties and urged both governments to support private-sector efforts to boost trade and investment exchanges.
On regional affairs, both leaders condemned Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, called for an immediate, lasting ceasefire. They also stressed the urgency of delivering humanitarian aid throughout Palestine.
Pezeshkian praised Oman's role in facilitating the indirect Iran-U.S. nuclear talks and welcomed the issuance of a joint postage stamp as a symbol of cultural diplomacy between the two neighbors. Haitham expressed hope that the Tehran-Washington dialogue would yield a mutually beneficial agreement, contributing to regional stability and prosperity. ■
