TOKYO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Thursday that he and U.S. President Donald Trump further deepened their understanding of each other's views on tariffs, local media reported.
Ishiba made the comment after a phone call with Trump ahead of a fourth round of bilateral tariff negotiations at the ministerial level, Kyodo News reported.
Ishiba agreed that their ministers should accelerate ongoing negotiations in greater detail, reiterating his call for the removal of higher U.S. tariffs on Japanese products.
This was the second call between the two leaders this month, following the first on May 23. ■
