TOKYO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said here on Thursday that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and Japan must actively draw lessons from that painful memory and history.

Speaking at the 30th Future of Asia forum, Ishiba said that Japan is determined not to repeat the mistakes of war and to take the path of a peaceful country after the war, and this will not change in the future.

Ishiba said that he is willing to learn the history and culture of Asian countries with an open mind, adding Japan should not only deepen economic relations with Asian countries, but also establish real trust with them.

Hosted by Nikkei, the Future of Asia forum has been held annually since 1995. This year's forum runs for two days from May 29-30 under the theme "Asia's Challenge in a Turbulent World."
