ISTANBUL, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corporation (Tupras) retained its position as Türkiye's largest industrial enterprise in 2024, according to the Top 500 Industrial Enterprises Survey published on Tuesday.

The Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) unveiled the results of the ISO 500 survey, conducted continuously since 1968, highlighting the leading companies in the industrial sector.

"In 2024, Tupras remained the largest organization by sales revenue, as it has been for many years, with sales amounting to 651.6 billion Turkish liras (16.71 billion U.S. dollars)," said Erdal Bahcivan, chairman of the board of ISO at a launch event in Istanbul.

Tupras also emerged as the largest organization by sales revenue in 2023, totaling 484 billion liras.

Meanwhile, Ford Automotive secured the second spot with net sales of 356 billion liras, while Star Refinery held third place with 201.6 billion liras, maintaining their rankings from the 2023 ISO 500 list.

During his speech, Bahcivan also warned that the ISO 500 data clearly highlighted the risk of Türkiye moving away from production, with net sales from production declining in real terms for three consecutive years.

"To avoid this, the country must prioritize competitive, high-quality, and sustainable growth grounded in technology and export-driven, skilled manufacturing," he said.

He stressed that a robust industrial infrastructure is crucial for the nation's comprehensive defense in a region fraught with geopolitical tensions.

Founded in 1952, the ISO is Türkiye's largest industrial chamber, with nearly 24,000 members, making it one of the key pillars of the Turkish industrial sector.
