CAIRO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reaffirmed on Tuesday their rejection of Israel's ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip and attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

During a phone call, the two sides "unequivocally rejected the continued Israeli aggression in Gaza and attempts to displace Palestinians from their land," read the statement.

Sisi and Sanchez emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave, according to the statement.

They also reiterated "the importance of enabling the implementation of the two-state solution by expanding recognition of the Palestinian state, while mobilizing support for the execution of the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing its people," it added.

The two leaders also discussed the situations in Syria, Lebanon, and Libya, highlighting the need to preserve the unity, territorial integrity, and security of those countries.

They agreed to build on the momentum generated by Sisi's February 2025 visit to Madrid by exploring wider prospects for cooperation, especially in economic, trade, and investment areas.

The two sides agreed on continued coordination on regional issues in light of the two countries' roles in promoting regional stability.

Israel ended a two-month ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza on March 18 and resumed deadly air and ground assaults, with a U.S.-backed plan to displace Gazans to neighboring countries, including Egypt and Jordan, a proposal that was strongly rejected by both.
