RIYADH, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia and Kuwait on Monday jointly announced a new oil discovery in the partitioned zone between the two countries, according to a statement by the Kingdom's Energy Ministry.
The discovery, made by Wafra Joint Operations in the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field, is located about five km north of the main Wafra field. Crude oil flowed from the Wara reservoir in the Wara-Burgan-1 well at a rate exceeding 500 barrels per day, with an API gravity of 26 to 27 degrees, indicating a medium-grade crude.
It is the first oil discovery since production resumed in the partitioned zone and its adjacent offshore area in mid-2020.
The discovery is expected to reinforce the two countries' positions as reliable global energy suppliers and highlight their continued efforts in enhancing exploration and production capabilities. ■
