JAKARTA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The police on the Indonesian resort island of Bali have recently arrested an Australian for allegedly trafficking 1.8 kg of cocaine.

Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya told local media at a press conference on Monday that the suspect, a 43-year-old man, smuggled the cocaine from abroad via a package delivery service disguised as stationery and dolls.

"The modus operandi in this crime is to use overseas postal services to send cocaine-type narcotics which would later be distributed in Bali," he said.

According to him, the illicit drugs were sent from England last month in two types of packages with different addresses to North Kuta in the Badung area to deceive officers.

The packages arrived in Bali on Tuesday last week before the customs officers at the airport uncovered them.

Adityajaya said that the Balinese Police continue to investigate the potential international drug network in the case.

Under Indonesia's strict drug laws, those involved in drug-related crimes face severe penalties, ranging from five years' imprisonment to the death penalty.
