BERLIN, May 26 (Xinhua) -- German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has called for a solution to the trade dispute between the European Union (EU) and the United States, calling it a shared interest for both sides.
In an interview with German public broadcaster ARD on Sunday, Klingbeil noted that negotiations are currently at a crucial stage. "We should not allow ourselves to be provoked," he said, stressing the importance of pursuing a collaborative solution that benefits both the EU and the U.S.
Klingbeil pointed to economic indicators from the United States, including data related to the U.S. dollar, as evidence that Washington also stands to gain from closer cooperation. "They, too, should have an interest in working with us," he added.
Warning of potential market instability, Klingbeil urged a timely resolution to avoid massive unrest. Despite the challenges, he expressed "cautious optimism" that a resolution could be achieved. ■
