RIO DE JANEIRO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Late goals from Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Ayrton Lucas gave Flamengo a 2-0 away win over leader Palmeiras in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
De Arrascaeta put the visitors ahead by converting a 73rd-minute penalty after he was dragged down by Murilo Cerqueira inside the area.
Ayrton doubled the advantage when he combined with Wallace Yan on the counterattack before drilling a low 12-yard shot that beat goalkeeper Weverton at his near post.
The result at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo leaves Flamengo second in the 20-team standings with 21 points, one behind Palmeiras after 10 matchdays.
"The game was just like a final," De Arrascaeta told reporters after the game. "It was really important to get the three points today because Palmeiras is a direct rival for the title."
In other fixtures on Sunday, Gremio won 1-0 at home to Bahia, Sport was held to a 1-1 home draw by Internacional, and Santos prevailed 1-0 at Vitoria. ■
