KABUL, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have started constructing a 400-bed children's specialized hospital in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the state-run Bakhtar News Agency reported on Saturday.
The hospital is funded by a local businessman in the provincial capital Herat City at the cost of 5 million U.S. dollars to provide healthcare services to the children, the state-owned media outlet added.
Afghanistan's health sector has been badly affected by decades of wars and the recent decision of the United States to halt humanitarian assistance to the post-war country. The Afghan public health ministry has been calling upon the international community to continue helping the Afghans in the health sector. ■
