PHNOM PENH, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly of Cambodia on Thursday began its fourth plenary session of the seventh legislature after a three-month recess.

Some 105 lawmakers took part in the session, chaired by National Assembly President Khuon Sudary.

King Norodom Sihamoni sent a royal message to mark the opening session, appreciating the National Assembly's active performance during the recess and acknowledging its significant contribution to peace, social order, economic growth, and inclusive development.

He commended the lawmakers for engaging with constituencies, addressing challenges, and improving the livelihoods of the people.

The monarch also praised the National Assembly's diplomatic efforts, including bilateral meetings and participation in international gatherings, for elevating Cambodia's prestige on the global stage and showcasing its critical role in promoting peace, development, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

"I would like to express appreciation for the collaboration between the legislative and executive branches in advancing the national development strategy, promoting regional and global economic integration, and ensuring sustainable growth, particularly in agro-industry, technology, tourism, and rural development," Sihamoni said.

He also commended the royal government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet for maintaining national security and social order, ensuring harmony among citizens, while social and economic activities have thrived across all sectors despite increasingly complex regional and global challenges, including natural disasters and climate change.

The National Assembly comprises 125 lawmakers, including 120 from the ruling Cambodian People's Party and five from the royalist Funcinpec Party.

During the recess, the lawmakers visited their constituents in order to hear and resolve their problems.
