MONTEVIDEO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay summoned Israel's ambassador in Montevideo on Wednesday over warning shots at a diplomatic delegation in the West Bank that included the Uruguayan ambassador to Israel.
The delegation was "attacked" with gunfire by Israeli soldiers during a visit organized by the Palestinian government to corroborate the humanitarian situation in the West Bank's Jenin Governorate, Uruguay's foreign ministry said in a statement.
While "Uruguay's ambassador and the rest of the delegation are unharmed," Israel's envoy should "clarify the incident indicated," the ministry said.
"Uruguay urges the Government of Israel to investigate this incident and take the necessary measures to guarantee the protection and allow the operation of diplomatic personnel accredited to the State of Palestine," it said. ■
