ABU DHABI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The UAE session of the 2025 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), bringing together more than 200 representatives from the automotive industry worldwide, has highlighted greater global collaboration in the industry.

At the meeting wrapped up on Tuesday, the participants discussed ways to foster collaboration on intelligent energy, smart mobility, and green technology development.

Wan Gang, president of the China Association for Science and Technology and WNEVC chair, emphasized in his keynote speech the importance of deepening international cooperation to accelerate the growth of the new energy vehicle market. He encouraged Chinese enterprises to tailor their products and services to local climatic conditions and market preferences in the UAE.

Feng Fei, secretary of the Communist Party of China Hainan Provincial Committee, shared the province's experience in green development practices under the Hainan Free Trade Port initiative. He noted that trade between Hainan and the UAE grew by 30 percent in 2024, with the opening of the direct shipping route between Hainan's Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Port reducing transportation costs by 12 percent and cutting delivery time by 10 to 15 days.

Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Zhang Yiming said the growing cooperation between China and the UAE in the new energy vehicle sector is fostering industrial synergy and will contribute to global efforts for green transformation and sustainable development.

Gauri Singh, deputy director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency, highlighted the urgency of expanding renewable energy deployment and improving energy efficiency to meet net-zero emission targets by 2030. Singh noted that in 2024, the world added 585 gigawatts of new renewable capacity, with China taking the lead. She called for greater policy innovation and industrial cooperation to turn climate commitments into tangible actions.
