MADRID, May 21 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny said on Wednesday that it will be a family decision if he agrees to extend his stay with the La Liga champion.

The 35-year-old was persuaded to come out of retirement by Barcelona after Marc Andre Ter Stegen tore his cruciate knee ligament at the start of the season and after needing time to get back to match fitness, he has been vital in his club's season, making 30 appearances in all competitions.

Ter Stegen has now recovered from his injury, but Barca has offered Szczesny a new contract for next season, with an option for a second additional campaign.

That would mean competing with Ter Stegen to start matches, but in an interview with TV Eleven Sports, the Pole said being first choice wasn't his main consideration.

"The question of if I've first or second choice isn't what will decide if I stay or not, it will be my family situation," he said.

"It will be a decision we make together, where we live together in sunny Marbella or sunny Barcelona," said the goalkeeper.

Szczesny even implied that he expected to be a substitute in a lot of games next season if he does pen a new deal.

"I think that if I renew my contract, it will be with the intention of guaranteeing there is quality on the bench next season," he commented.
