JAKARTA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government has projected the country's budget deficit to be in the range of 2.48 percent to 2.53 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2026, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a plenary session of the House of Representatives, where she presented the 2026 Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles, Sri Mulyani emphasized the importance of maintaining an expansive fiscal policy to support economic stability.
"In facing and anticipating global pressures and dynamics, fiscal policy will continue to be designed to remain expansive, targeted, and measurable," she told lawmakers at the parliament building.
According to the minister, state revenue in 2026 is projected to reach 11.71 percent to 12.22 percent of GDP, while state expenditure is estimated at 14.19 percent to 14.75 percent of GDP.
For this year, Indonesia's budget deficit is forecast to reach 2.53 percent of GDP, according to figures from the Ministry of Finance.
Looking ahead, Indonesia expects the national economy to grow by 5.2 percent to 5.8 percent in 2026, supported by resilient domestic demand and ongoing structural reforms. ■
