CAIRO, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his Lebanese counterpart Joseph Aoun met in Cairo on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, support Lebanon's stability, and address broader regional peace challenges.
In a televised press conference broadcast by the state-run Nile TV, Sisi said their talks covered ways to boost cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of economy and trade.
"Egypt is keen on supporting Lebanon's reconstruction efforts," he said.
The Egyptian president reiterated his country's categorical rejection of Israel's repeated violations against Lebanese sovereignty, urging Israel's immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all Lebanese territories to enable Lebanon to extend its sovereignty over its territories and strengthen the role of the Lebanese army.
Aoun called on the international community to take its responsibility to oblige Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories.
The two sides reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and firmly rejected any attempts to displace the Palestinians, according to the Egyptian president.
Their talks also covered regional issues, especially the situation in Syria.
The two presidents voiced full support for the Syrian people and stressed the necessity of a comprehensive political process during the transitional period, alongside continued efforts to combat terrorism.
They strongly condemned Israel's repeated aggressions against Syrian sovereignty and stressed the need for Israel to withdraw from the occupied Syrian territories. ■
