YANGON, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will hold a forum on post-earthquake economic recovery in Nay Pyi Taw on May 30 and 31, according to the country's Ministry of Information on Friday.
A coordination meeting for the upcoming forum was held on Thursday, attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, state-owned daily The Mirror reported on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, U Maung Maung Ohn said that the forum is intended to support Myanmar's economic recovery following the earthquake. He expressed confidence that the forum would produce positive outcomes for the country, the report said.
He added that the forum aims to bring together entrepreneurs and interested citizens to engage in practical discussions and foster greater cooperation between the public and the business community, the report said.
According to the report, the forum will focus on three main topics: the economic impact of the earthquake, the challenges and opportunities in economic recovery, and the development of collective solutions for recovery efforts.
It also aims to expand markets for domestic products and promote business cooperation by leveraging Myanmar's geopolitical position and geo-economic potential, the report added.
Participation in the forum is open to all interested individuals, the report said.
A powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28. As of May 13, the disaster has claimed approximately 3,800 lives, injured over 5,100 people, and left 85 individuals unaccounted for, according to official data. ■
