KABUL, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Security personnel have thwarted attempts to smuggle a huge quantity of opium poppy and took into custody three individuals on charges of involvement in the illegal drug business in the southern Afghanistan Kandahar province on Saturday, an army spokesman said Sunday.
The contraband, which includes 1,672 kg of opium poppy and five kg of hashish, was discovered in the border town of Spin Boldak when the drug traffickers were attempting to take the illegal goods outside the country.
