LOS ANGELES, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The United States has reported more than 1,000 measles cases so far in 2025, according to the latest data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday.

A total of 14 measles outbreaks have been recorded nationwide this year. The CDC defines an outbreak as three or more connected cases.

Confirmed cases climbed to 1,001 as of Thursday across 31 U.S. jurisdictions, including 126 hospitalizations and three deaths, according to CDC.

This year's case count represents a significant surge from 2024, when 285 measles cases were recorded in the country for the entire year.

The CDC emphasizes that the best way to prevent measles is through vaccination. Two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine are highly effective in preventing the disease.
