NEW DELHI, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the sport's national governing body, announced Friday it will suspend the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for one week with immediate effect amid tensions between India and Pakistan.

"The BCCI has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.

The IPL, a multi-billion-dollar franchise cricket league featuring top global and Indian players, began in March and was scheduled to conclude in May. Twelve league matches and four knockout games remain.
