NEW YORK, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 1.03 percent to 100.639 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1225 U.S. dollars from 1.1303 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3251 dollars from 1.3291 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 145.88 Japanese yen, higher than 143.87 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8312 Swiss francs from 0.8242 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3928 Canadian dollars from 1.3836 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.7340 Swedish Kronor from 9.6678 Swedish Kronor. ■
