VIENTIANE, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Laos and Switzerland Thursday reaffirmed their strong partnership in advancing dam safety during a steering committee meeting of the Dam Safety Technical and Institutional Assistance project.
The meeting, held in the Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday, aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to protect communities and ecosystems that depend on hydropower infrastructure.
Under the project, Lao and Swiss experts will work together to enhance technical and institutional capacities to improve the safety of hydroelectric power plants in Laos, Lao National Radio reported.
The meeting endorsed Laos' first-ever dam engineering course, marking a milestone seen as a tangible success of the Lao-Swiss partnership, aimed at building local expertise and promoting long-term sustainability in the sector. ■
