SEOUL, May 8 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale slightly fell last month due to supply shortage and higher vehicle price that offset strong demand for German luxury models, industry data showed Thursday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here inched down 0.3 percent over the year to 21,495 in April, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association.

The reduction was attributed to price increase of some models and shortage of vehicles.

For the first four months of this year, 82,152 foreign vehicles were sold domestically, up 7.9 percent compared with the same period of last year.

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,710 units last month.

Another German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the sale of 4,908 units, followed by U.S. automaker Tesla with 1,447 units, Lexus with 1,353 units, Porsche with 1,077 units and Volvo with 1,068 units.

The number of European models sold here was 16,170 last month, taking up 75.2 percent of the total. U.S., Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 11.1 percent, 11.1 percent and 2.5 percent each.
