MANILA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' unemployment rate in March rose to 3.9 percent, up from 3.8 percent in February, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Wednesday.
PSA Chief Dennis Mapa told a press conference that an estimated 1.93 million Filipinos were out of work in March this year.
Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon said the labor sector will improve as the current government has implemented a road map to address labor market challenges.
"The latest employment figures highlight the need for comprehensive interventions to increase investments, encourage technology adoption, and improve job satisfaction and employment quality," Edillon said.
On Monday, the Philippines outlined a long-term plan to generate jobs, strengthen the country's workforce, and future-proof the labor supply. ■
