PRAGUE, May 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were injured in an explosion and subsequent fire in residential building in northeastern Czech city of Ostrava on Wednesday, local media reported.
The incident happened around noon in Ostrava-Dubina, according to the Czech News Agency. Local fire and rescue service said that five firefighter units are currently responding to the fire in the residential building.
"The fire is on the seventh floor above ground. Three people have been rescued, and the evacuation of residents from the lower floors below the affected apartment is currently underway," the fire and rescue service said on social media platform X.
The Czech News Agency said medical rescuers had treated 10 people so far.
According to firefighters, the fire was preceded by an explosion, which also caused windows and doors to be blown out. ■
