NEW YORK, May 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 389.83 points, or 0.95 percent, to 40,829.0. The S&P 500 sank 43.47 points, or 0.77 percent, to 5,606.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 154.58 points, or 0.87 percent, to 17,689.66.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with health and consumer discretionary leading the laggards by losing 2.76 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and energy led the gainers by adding 1.23 percent and 0.10 percent, respectively. ■
