BEIRUT, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese army intelligence has detained a Palestinian national suspected of involvement in two rocket attacks launched from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel, the army said on Sunday.
In a statement, the army's Directorate of Guidance said Hamas handed over the suspect at the entrance of the Ain al-Helweh refugee camp in Sidon, south Lebanon.
The army identified the individual as being suspected of involvement in rocket attacks on Israeli territory on March 22 and 28, the statement said, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
Separately, Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted a prefabricated house in the village of Kafr Kila, located in the eastern sector of Lebanon's southern border region.
A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that "an Israeli military unit is establishing a new outpost in the Khallat al-Mahafir area, south of the village of Adaisseh, in a disputed border zone west of the Israeli settlement of Metula."
A ceasefire brokered by the United States and France between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024, ending over a year of hostilities triggered by the war in Gaza. Despite the truce, Israel has continued to conduct occasional airstrikes in Lebanon, stating they are aimed at neutralizing "threats" posed by Hezbollah. ■
