KABUL, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Hailstorm and flash floods have caused casualties and property damages in the northern Afghanistan's Badakhsan province on Friday, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Sunday.
Citing local officials, the state-owned media outlet added that the hailstorm, coupled with heavy rain, triggered flash floods on Friday evening, which destroyed the road linking the provincial capital Faizabad to the Baharak district while destroying dozens of vehicles.
The exact figure of the casualties, including dead and injured, has yet to be determined, the state-run media outlet said, adding that the natural disaster had also washed away or badly damaged residential houses, water canals and agricultural lands.
Afghanistan is reportedly prone to natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, as floods and tremors have claimed hundreds of lives over the past couple of years in the war-ravaged country. ■
