KABUL, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have initiated a 40-megawatt solar power project in north Afghanistan's Balkh province, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), or the Afghan power company, said on Saturday.
According to the DABS, the project, which costs 28 million U.S. dollars, included a 40-megawatt solar power facility in Dahdadi district. The project will benefit thousands of families and industrial factories in the district and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, Afghan authorities have begun the work of a 40-megawatt solar power project worth 28 million dollars on Thursday in Jalalabad city, provincial capital of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province.
The war-torn Afghanistan is largely dependent on power imported from Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. ■
