NEW YORK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.78 percent to 100.246 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1286 U.S. dollars from 1.1348 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3278 U.S. dollars from 1.3339 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 145.68 Japanese yen, higher than 142.77 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8316 Swiss francs from 0.8229 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3848 Canadian dollars from 1.3785 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.7566 Swedish kronor from 9.6559 Swedish kronor.
