KABUL, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan interim government promised on Thursday to spare no efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of agriculture and livestock products.
"Agriculture and animal husbandry is the vital part of Afghanistan's economy as about 70 percent to 75 percent of the people of the country are relying on this field, and therefore the government supports this sector and wants to modernize the agriculture," acting Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlawi Attaullah Omari said at the opening ceremony of an agriculture exhibition here.
Broadcast by the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan, the four-day exhibition aimed at backing the farmers and finding markets for their products.
A number of agreements between local companies and foreign participants are expected to be inked during the event. ■
