NEW YORK, April 23 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 419.59 points, or 1.07 percent, to 39,606.57. The S&P 500 added 88.10 points, or 1.67 percent, to 5,375.86. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 407.63 points, or 2.50 percent, to 16,708.05.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by adding 2.92 percent and 2.76 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer staples and energy lost 0.42 percent and 0.27 percent, respectively. ■
